Birth-to-Five

Everyone and everything around you is your teacher. Ken Keyes, Jr. (1921-1995) Writer

Birth-to-FiveOne look at the faces of the children lets you know that your money is working in the community.  Through a grant from the Foundation, Birth-to-Five is providing books to children.  But it’s providing much more.  The program gives the adults in the child’s life tools they can use to become an important part of that child’s educational success.

Designed to help those who are parenting children connect learning with life, Book Buddies provides activities that help children answer the question “Why am I learning this?”   Through carefully crafted lessons, the children and their significant adult read a book together and interact with various mediums to create crafts related to the theme of the book.  Very soon, children are recognizing words and learning they can be successful readers.

This important interaction helps parents and grandparents realize they do not need high tech gadgets to help their children be life-long learners.  They just need to be present and engaged.

By stressing the process of learning, Birth-to-Five gives the adult valuable tools and concepts to make learning a part of every day life.
