Scholarships Available

Scholarship and award funds are a type of designated fund that provide donors the opportunity to offer financial support to students.  When scholarship funds are established, the donor outlines criteria to guide the awards.  The Foundation, through its own committees and in conjunction with the Honors & Awards Committee at each high school, works to assure the donor's wishes are met.

New Funds Established

Betty J. Cecere Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund-2006 ($16,393) - To be awarded to a graduating female senior at Richmond High School who demonstrates a financial need and is planning to attend an accredited post-secondary school.

Jo Anne Grigsby Memorial Scholarship Fund-2006 ($21,817) - To be awarded to a Lincoln High School graduating senior pursuing a career in math or science education or Christian services.

Robert E. Rodefeld Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund-2006 ($16,803) - To be awarded to a Richmond High School graduating senior who participated in high school swimming, representing the school and the sport in the pool, classroom and community and one who earned a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.

Harold W. Ryan Memorial Scholarship Fund-2006 ($25,165) - To provide a scholarship annually to a Wayne County graduating senior intending a course of study that will lead to vocation in public safety, especially in the field of law enforcement, firefighting, or emergency medical training.

AAUW-Hoffman Scholarship Fund-1990 ($269,931) – To provide both undergraduate and graduate scholarships to students graduating from Richmond High School.

African-American Scholarship & Awards Fund-1994 ($80,174) – To provide scholarships to deserving Wayne County minority students.

Jonathan Alan Scholarship Fund-1999 ($14,041) – To assist a Richmond High School graduate who plans to enter a medical field and demonstrates financial need.

Anonymous Scholarship Fund-1997 ($102,698) – To provide college scholarships of at least $1,000 to graduates of Lincoln, Hagerstown, Northeastern, Seton or Centerville High Schools who is pursuing a degree in music.

Earl Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund-1997 ($9,374) – To benefit graduates of Wayne County high schools who plan to attend Purdue University.

Erika A. and George E. Brattain, Sr. Scholarship Fund-2005 ($1,207) – To provide music scholarships to graduating seniors of Lincoln High School to further their education.

Clarence Brown Scholarship Fund-1990 ($48,394) – To benefit graduating Richmond High School seniors.

Ralph Burkhardt Scholarship Fund-1997 ($6,003) – To provide a scholarship to a graduating Richmond High School senior who has been an outstanding orchestra student and intends to study music in college.

Lucille Campbell Scholarship Fund-2004 ($56,298) - To provide a scholarship annually to a graduating senior of a Wayne County high school who demonstrates financial need.

Centerville-Abington Dollars for Scholars-2004 ($47,234) - To financially support students who wish to pursue education beyond high school, and to encourage educational achievement.  

Jason Chaney Memorial Scholarship Fund-1999 ($14,341) - To provide an annual scholarship to a graduating male senior of Hagerstown High School.

Melba Dawn Chiarenza Scholarship Fund-1998 ($588,996) – To provide scholarships to Lincoln High School graduates who plan to major in business, nursing, or drama.

Alex Christ Memorial Scholarship Fund-2002 ($6,973) – To benefit one graduating senior from Richmond High School.

Ed Clemmer Memorial Scholarship Fund-1997 ($1,939) – Upon reaching a balance of $5,000, scholarships will be granted.

Helen Coble Memorial Fund for Business Education-1995 ($6,182) – To offer financial assistance to women studying to open a business.

Chris Coffman Memorial Scholarship Fund-1998 ($11,673) – This fund provides the “Christopher Coffman Giant of Heart” award to a student who exhibits the personality traits of Chris Coffman.

William J. Cramer Scholarship Fund-1994 ($480,066) – To provide renewable scholarships to graduating Richmond High School students. 

Justin B. Cross Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund-2005 ($24,532) – To provide a scholarship to a graduating senior from Richmond High School.

M. Glenn Cross Memorial Scholarship-1991 ($17,568) - To provide a scholarship to a Richmond High School student attending a state school.

W. Barry Culy Memorial Scholarship Fund-1998 ($46,627) – To provide scholarships to graduates of Hagerstown High School.

William and Clare Dexter Scholarship Fund-2000 ($10,800) - To assist students at Seton High School who are in financial need.

Charlie Dils Memorial Scholarship-1999 ($4,395) – To provide annual scholarships once the fund is endowed. 

Marilyn Sedam Donner Memorial Scholarship Fund-2001 ($1,420) - To be awarded to outstanding English students at Centerville High School graduates who are planning to further their education.

Jeffrey Duncan Scholarship Fund-1999 ($13,292) – To provide renewable scholarship to a Richmond High School graduate preparing to be an engineer.

Eastern Indiana Human Resource Association Scholarship Fund-2002 ($7,877) – To provide an annual scholarship to a resident of Indiana who is enrolled in an Indiana college or university and who is pursuing a career in human resources or a related field.

Hazel Thornburg Emry Scholarship Fund-2002 ($5,487) – To be used for scholarships to deserving students involved in theatre. 

Joseph P. Esposito Scholarship Fund-2000 ($5,692) – To assist a graduating senior of Centerville High School who is pursuing further education in the field of engineering.

First Bank Scholarship Fund-2001 ($159,684) - To benefit students enrolled in a private high school in Wayne County who demonstrate financial need

Waneta Fulton Memorial Scholarship Fund-1988 ($3,251) –  To benefit a Hagerstown High School graduating senior who excelled academically and exhibited leadership in extra-curricular activities and who is planning to study nursing or medicine.

Louis E. Gibbs Memorial Fund-1995 ($7,210) - To provide scholarships for studies in law enforcement at Indiana University East.

Frostie Gilley Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund-2005 ($10,188)– To provide a scholarship annually to a graduating senior of Northeastern High School pursuing a degree in nursing.

Tami Goss Memorial Donor Advised Scholarship Fund-2005 ($1,557) – To be awarded to a deserving female senior graduating from Centerville High School, who is planning to attend an accredited college, university or vocational school.

Francis & Earla Gregg Scholarship Fund-1994 ($18,574) – To provide scholarships for Richmond High School graduates who plan to study art.

Ann Harmeier Memorial Scholarship-1994 ($17,204) – To provide an annual scholarship to a graduate of Lincoln High School.

Anna Belle Henthorne Memorial Scholarship-1988 ($3,795) – To be used to provide a scholarship and two art show awards.

Robert E. and Margaret M. Herbst Scholarship Fund-2000 ($14,797) – To provide a scholarship annually to a graduate of Richmond High School who is pursuing further education and who has demonstrated an interest in voluntary civic service.

Jean Hilkert Memorial Scholarship-2003 ($42,214) – To provide a scholarship annually to a graduating senior of Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana.

Mary E. Hill Memorial Scholarship-1985 ($180,235) – To assist students studying the field of health or medicine with priority given to minority students. 

Greg and Rod Jarrett Donor Advised Scholarship Fund-2005 ($3,164)– Established by Mrs. Jarrett to provide a scholarship annually to a graduating senior of Hagerstown High School seeking a business degree at an accredited post secondary institution.

Mary Hatfield Jenkins Memorial Scholarship-2003 ($143,989) – To provide scholarships and educational loans to students in the five county school corporations.

Joshua Johnson Memorial Fund-2003 ($8,680) - To provide an annual scholarship to an outstanding graduating senior of Hagerstown High School.

Hubert and Grace Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund-2002 ($14,091) – To be awarded to an exemplary Reid Hospital employee who graduated from Union County High School and is pursuing higher education in the field of nursing.

James Joseph Scholarship Fund-2000 ($12,806) - To provide a scholarship to a graduating senior of Richmond High School who plans to prepare for a human service profession.

Nancy Keelor Kelly Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund-2005 ($112,196)– To provide a scholarship to a Richmond High School graduating senior planning to attend a four-year accredited college in the State of Indiana who demonstrates financial need.

Timothy Kettler Memorial Scholarship Fund-2002 ($412) – To be awarded to an exemplary employee at Reid Hospital who is pursuing a nursing certificate or degree related to his/her profession.

Kirk-Little Post 1108, VFW Scholarship #1-1993 ($80,416) – To provide $1000 scholarships to graduating Richmond High School seniors.

Kirk-Little Post 1108, VFW Scholarship #2-1994 ($79,274) - To provide $1000 scholarships to graduating Centerville High School seniors.

Kirk-Little Post 1108, VFW Scholarship #3-1994 ($84,475) – To provide $1000 scholarships to graduating Northeastern High School seniors.

Kirk-Little Post 1108, VFW Scholarship #4-1996 ($77,716) – To provide $1000 scholarships to graduating Hagerstown High School seniors.

Kirk-Little Post 1108, VFW Scholarship #5-1996 ($74,973) – To provide $1000 scholarships to graduating Lincoln High School seniors.

Kirk-Little VFW Post #1108 Scholarship #6-2003 ($34,687) – To provide a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Seton Catholic High School.

Lacy Memorial Scholarship Fund-1988 ($21,367) – To benefit a Hagerstown High School graduating senior who exhibited leadership, is active in extra-curricular activities, had a strong academic performance and shows financial need.

Paul J. & Bernice J. Lamberson Memorial Scholarship-1989 ($18,427) – To honor former Western Wayne teachers and provide scholarships for graduating Lincoln High School students.

Ellen M. Lane Memorial Scholarship Fund-2001 ($22,620) – To be awarded to a Lincoln High School graduate going into the education or health care field.

Fern A. Lee Memorial Fund-2003 ($36,055) - To provide a scholarship to a Lincoln High School graduating senior who enrolls in a post secondary business training school or business college.

Christina Maria Danielle Leitner Memorial Scholarship-1995 ($10,679) – To provide scholarships to Richmond High School graduates and Community Christian School students.

Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Fund-1998 ($24,168) – To provide four-year full tuition scholarships to a Wayne County resident and current graduate from an accredited high school.

Kimberly Long Memorial Scholarship-1981 ($9,982) – To be awarded annually to a Richmond High School graduate enrolling in a degree granting institution.

Henry J. and Hedwig Seegers Luerman Endowment Fund-2003 ($30,865) – To provide tuition assistance to Seton Elementary students who demonstrate financial need.

Mary E. Maurer, Hilda Dickman Herold, and Martha Jane Dickman Scholarship Endowment Fund-2005 ($38,891) – To provide annual scholarships to one male and one female student graduating from Seton Catholic High School.

Robert A. Luerman and Carl H. Luerman Endowment Fund-2003 ($30,865) – To provide tuition assistance to two Seton Elementary students each year who are in financial need.

Kevin Scott MacDowell Memorial Scholarship-1990 ($49,170) – To provide two scholarships to Richmond High School graduates.

Ruth & Henry Macy Memorial Scholarship-1989 ($95,259) – To provide assistance to graduating seniors of Northeastern Wayne High School.

Joseph E. Maddy Scholarship Fund-1998 ($286) – To assist Interlochen Arts Academy students from Wayne County.

Rob Mahoney Memorial Scholarship Fund-2001 ($36,335) – To provide scholarships to a Lincoln High School graduate who is pursuing further education in preparation for a career in the construction industry. 

Edie Marshall Memorial Scholarship Fund-1998 ($1,648) – To assist students of the Whitney Center demonstrating financial need.

Ruby Fender Martin Memorial Scholarship-1990 ($37,420) – To be awarded to a Centerville High School graduate of high academic and moral character.

Ruby Fender Martin Nursing Scholarship-1990 ($97,802) – To provide assistance to a graduate of Centerville High School who is enrolling in a nursing program.

Frances Mayhew, RN Scholarship Fund-2002 ($41,301) – To provide scholarships to nursing students who are seeking a course of study leading to a Bachelor of Arts or a Masters degree.

Donald A. McKinney Memorial Scholarship Fund-2005 ($32,065) –To annually benefit two Centerville High School graduates in need of money for college.

Margaret Roushar Menning Memorial Scholarship-1999 ($17,349) – To assist a student who plans to continue his or her education at a liberal arts college.

Galen Miller Scholarship Fund-1998 ($6,375) – To be awarded to students who have volunteered to assist people with disabilities.

Antonio Mitrione Scholarship Fund-1998 ($11,478) – To benefit a Richmond High School graduate.

Walter Moegerle Memorial Scholarship-1999 ($2,283) - To be awarded annually to a Centerville graduate planning to pursue a career in the computer or technology field.

Marian Niswander Business Scholarship-2002 ($7,062) -To benefit students who plan to study business.

Daniel Patrick Oberle Memorial Scholarship Fund-1997 ($46,495) – To be awarded to a graduate of Centerville High School who plans to pursue an education leading to a career in the construction industry.

Dorotha Kitterman Packard Memorial Educational Fund-2000 ($256,315) - To provide scholarships to students in need. 

Alicebelle Parry Scholarship Fund-1994 ($146,266) – To assist a graduating senior from Winchester High School.

Mary K. Paust Memorial Scholarship-1987 ($23,148) – To provide a scholarship to a graduating Richmond High School senior studying business.

Perfect Circle Credit Union Scholarship Endowment Fund-2004 ($5,984) – To annually provide a scholarship to a Wayne County high school graduating student entering an accredited post-secondary institution.

Edna Johnston McNary Pickett Memorial Scholarship Fund-1996 ($23,159) - To be awarded to a graduating Centerville senior based upon academic excellence and financial need.

Jack Reed Memorial Fund -1999 ($34,760) – To provide scholarships to outstanding members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wayne County who plan to attend college.

Richmond College Incentive Plan Fund-1990 ($1,219,833) – To provide scholarships to Richmond High School graduates who intend to further their education at a Wayne County college.  The fund also includes the Thomas N. Coffin Memorial Fund and Edward J. Fath Memorial Fund.

Richmond High School Class of 1980 Scholarship Fund-2000 ($655) – To provide scholarships as a part of the Richmond College Incentive Plan when fully funded.   

Ruth Hamilton Robbins Memorial Scholarship-1979 ($25,091) – To provide scholarships to a Richmond High School student who plans to study business or nursing and is a descendant of a US veteran.

George Romack Memorial Scholarship-1999 ($7,096) – To benefit a Centerville High School graduating senior who demonstrates academic responsibility, has an interest in teaching, coaching, physcial fitness, and/or conservation, wildlife, or natural resources.

Rosa Family Scholarship Award-1988 ($101,015) –To be used to recognize the academic excellence of one male and one female graduate of Richmond High School.

Seton High School Scholarship Fund-2000 ($1,899) – To assist students at Seton High School who demonstrate financial need.

Stuart C. and Martha I. Shipman Scholarship Fund-2000 ($11,068) - To provide scholarships to Lincoln High School graduates who plan to attend college to prepare for a career in education, fine arts, business or a vocational area. 

Elizabeth Smelser Scholarship Fund-1994 ($259,304) – To provide renewable scholarships to a Richmond High School graduating senior attending Earlham College.

Richard F. Smith Memorial Scholarship-1994 ($8,430) – To provide scholarships to Richmond High School graduates studying graphic arts.

Anne Elizabeth Sperling Memorial Scholarship-1984 ($26,635) – To assist a Richmond High School graduate who is enrolled in a program of R.N. certification.

Anne E. Sperling, BSN Memorial Scholarship Fund-2002 ($12,392) – To be awarded to an exemplary registered nurse employed at Reid Hospital who is seeking a Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from Indiana University East.

Anne E. Sperling, MSN Memorial Scholarship Fund-2002 ($11,999) – To be awarded to an exemplary registered nurse employed at Reid Hospital who is seeking a Master of Science Nursing degree, and is enrolled full or part-time at an accredited university school of nursing. 

Luella M. Beatty Stott Memorial Scholarship Fund-1999 ($5,687) - To provide scholarships to students planning to study nursing. 

Elmer E. Toschlog Memorial Award-1986 ($6,481) – To be awarded annually to a graduate of Centerville High School who has demonstrated outstanding citizenship and leadership skills.

Dr. Jerry Turner Memorial Scholarship Fund-2000 ($3,531) – To provide an annual scholarship to a Richmond High School graduate who plans to prepare for a career in veterinary medicine, science or agriculture, and who demonstrates financial need. 

Thad Tutterow Memorial Scholarship Fund-1988 ($11,440) – To benefit a Hagerstown High School graduating senior who had a strong academic performance, showed leadership in extra-curricular activities, demonstrated dedication to community development and showed responsibility in their actions.

Dr. William E. Upchurch Memorial Award-1999 ($14,064) - To provide scholarships to graduates of Hagerstown High School who exhibit positive traits including good citizenship, leadership, strong character, service and strong academic performance.

Glenn Veal Scholarship Trust-2003 ($60,433) - To benefit graduates of Nettle Creek School Corporation who study agriculture and home economics.

Wayne County College Fund-1990 ($931,871) – Established with assets of the former Natco Foundation to provide last dollar scholarship assistance to Wayne County high school graduates to attend Wayne County colleges.

Frederick and Mary Wood Scholarship Fund-1998 ($138,656) - To benefit graduates of Hagerstown High School and Chrysler High School (New Castle).
