Foundation Awards over $140,000 in Grants

The Wayne County Foundation has awarded $140,198 to twenty organizations relating to environment & preservation, health/human service and seniors. A number of conservation and preservation efforts are among the grant awards. The complete list of grant awards follows:

Canine Partners for Life - $900.00
Toward the cost of the training and placement of a service dog for a 22-year old Fountain City resident.

Petra Project, Inc. - $1,000.00
Toward their 2007 free meal program.

City of Richmond - $7,500.00
Toward the cost to build "A House That Wouldn't Burn" to be used by the Richmond Fire & Police Departments for fire and rescue training.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - $975.00
To fund the speaker and other costs for the Mind, Body and Soul Seminar, which will provide education to area clergy on mental illness.

Richmond/Wayne County Halfway House/Hope House - $10,000.00
To assist with funding literacy training for the men in their after-care program needing to learn to read.

Youth as Resources - $2,500.00
To assist with sponsoring a two day Voice Initiative leadership and advocacy training program for Wayne County youth. This training will increase the skills needed by youth to lead Indiana's Youth Led Movement Against the Tobacco Industry projects in their schools and communities.

Independent Living Center of Eastern Indiana - $3,742.00
To replace their old telephone equipment used to communicate with deaf or hearing impaired persons, replace an old copy machine, and purchase a folding machine to increase the staff’s production time.

Birth-To-Five, Inc. - $2,785.00
To purchase toys and or storage containers for eight playgroups, purchase informational materials for enhanced playgroups, and purchase new children's books that supplement the lesson kits for their home visit program.

HELP The Animals - $7,000.00
To provide seed money to create a self-sustaining community spay/neuter program to provide affordable alteration surgeries to pet owners and caretakers of feral cats.Achieva

Resources Corporation - $4,903.00
To purchase equipment needed for clients attending their recreation and fitness programs.

Interfaith Mission Center/Community Food Pantry - $14,000.00
To replace the heating system, install a new door, and purchase and install a walk-in freezer.

Noah's Ark-Diplomas - $9,824.00
To assist with offsetting childcare costs.

Habitat for Humanity - $9,050.00
To purchase two laptop computers, one for the construction coordinator and one for the volunteer coordinator; purchase one desktop computer; and a copy machine.

S.P.U.R. - $8,000.00
To assist with costs associated with the continuation of the construction of hiking trails from the East Fork of the Whitewater River near North 24th Street to Elks Road.

Wayne County Soil & Water - $1,500.00
Toward the cost of Conservation Days, which teaches about natural resources, agriculture and safety to approximately 1,000 third and fourth graders from Wayne County.

Wayne County Historical Society - $12,500.00
Toward the repair and installation of the brick pavers on the walkway; remove and replace the front porch; tuck point steps as needed; strip, paint and reinstall front doors; repair side door; and replace lattice on east side of the porch.

Wayne County Cardinal Greenway - $19,250.00
To fund the engineering work to complete the construction documents required by INDOT for the trail between Industries Road and Webster.

Parks Foundation/Cope Environmental Center - $1,500.00
To support the Family Earth Day Celebration.

Fountain City Lions Club - $18,269.00
Toward the purchase of the appliances, cabinets, tables and chairs for the kitchen area in the Community Room of the future Senior Housing complex in Fountain City. The kitchen may also be used by Area 9 as a Neighborhood Meal Site for residents and provide delivery of meals to qualified homebound citizens.

Senior Opportunities Services - $5,000.00
To support the continuation of homemaker care services to their clients.
